various artists - B-More Vibe Magazine presents Watch This! (mixed by Musse' Mus)

The timing of this post is pretty unfortunate, because a couple months ago B-More Vibe Magazine released its first mixtape, and put on a great release party show for the occasion, but I'm now getting around to writing about the CD here just a few days after it was announced that B-More Vibe is no more. You can read the full announcement here, so all I'll say is that I have a lot of respect for what Rogue and Me'Aze Millioni tried to do with the mag, but knowing what the market is like for print publications these days, I totally understand their decision. I only contributed to B-More Vibe a little bit and always wished I did more, but it is what it is. Let's talk about what they did accomplish, though, because this CD is pretty dope, with new material from D.O.G., UnReal, Ms. Stress, Tha Profitt, B.O.M.B, PenDragon, and even Rogue herself. I was impressed that they got virtually every artist on the mixtape to perform at the release party, too.

Remstarr - "Know Me" (mp3)
I have to admit that the real reason I'm posting this song is that about 28 seconds into the track, Musse' Mus says "Government Names dot Blogspot dot com." I've heard my government name shouted out on mixtapes a couple times now, but this is the first time I've heard Government Names itself shouted out, which is pretty cool. The song is good, too, though, I've never posted anything by Remstarr before but I see dude all over MySpace all the time.

Supa Producer Mus' and Me'Aze Millioni - Baltimore's Most Wanted: Hunt For The Best Emcee (Uniquity Productions/Jam Eazey Entertainment)

A few months ago, Musse' Mus' sent me a mixtape that I wrote about here. But already by then, his new project with Me'Aze Millioni, formerly a.k.a. Bosslady, was on the way and I'd been looking forward to that too. The first copy of it that I got was messed up, so I didn't finally get to hear it until I got another copy from Me'Aze this week, but it's nice to finally hear it. It's got some artists I heard for the first time on Mus's last mixtape (B.I.G. Status, Fort Knoxx, Mossburg), some artists I was already familiar with (Labtekwon, UnReal, M.O.L., Ms. Stress, Sonny Brown) and a few that I've never really heard before (Billy Lyve, Kardair, Lil Trife), so it's kind of a nice mix on there. Mus' just produced a handful of the tracks but there's some other good original beats on here too.

Sonny Brown - "Gingabread Man Freestyle" (mp3)
I was kinda hyped to hear this mixtape partly because Me'Aze told me that Sonny Brown shouts me out by name on it, and sure enough, he does in an ad lib during the first chorus of this track (and also on the "Sonny Brown Speaks" track that follows it on the CD). That's never happened to me before so I'm kinda geeked out about it. Thanks for that, Sonny!

B.I.G. Status - Green Day (12/12 Enterprises)

You might remember the B.I.G. Status track I posted from a Musse' Mus' mixtape a few weeks ago (he was also on the Bosslady mixtape I posted about recently). I thought the song I posted was bananas, so I was looking forward to hearing a whole project by him, and I wasn't disappointed by this. There aren't many clear standouts I like as much as "Line Up," but it's pretty consistent. His voice is strong and clear and not particularly unique, but he can flow and it's just straight up aggressive all the way through, might really be one of the best Bmore mixtapes I've heard lately. Comp even makes a little cameo on here. Dude is performing at Coppin State on February 26th and March 3rd, and Kevin Vega from his label, 12/12, has a show on Deep Flow Radio now.

B.I.G. Status - "The Life" (mp3)
Some great original production on here, particularly by Donland Hitmen, and this track is one of my favorites.

Musse' Mus' presents Rep Ur State Vol. 1 East Coast City Edition (Beats The Hard Way Music/Uniquity Productions)

Musse' Mus' (which is apparently pronounced like Moosey Moose) is a producer who e-mailed me a while back about his music. Last year he released a various artists mixtape on which he produced most of the tracks (aside from "Post Up" by Dirty Hartz, which was produced by Debonair Samir), similiar to Darkroom Productions' two Hamsterdam mixtapes. He's got another mixtape dropping soon, hosted by Bosslady, called Baltimore's Most Wanted, again with most tracks by Super Producer Mus', but this one has been out since last year. There are some artists I'm familiar with on here like Mr. Whitefolkz and Don Brody, as well as a hot track with Bossman and Grafh on it, along with a lot of MCs I haven't heard of, some of whom are pretty good and I might have to start checkin' for. Check out Musse' Mus's label Uniquity Productions for more info.

B.I.G. Status - "Line Up" (mp3)
Bosslady actually send me a mixtape by B.I.G. Status that I haven't listened to yet, but it looks like this track isn't on it, and it's probably my favorite track on this CD.
