Mullyman - Ready freestyle (Bossman diss)
I don't like to talk about beef here. When some rapper in Baltimore talks shit about someone else, which is pretty much constantly, I usually turn the other way and hope it blows over. But this is two artists I post about frequently, two of the biggest in the city right now. I wish them both success and I hope this doesn't become some big beef that's part of their public images. You see how beef can boost someone's profile. It's bullshit. The only people who need beef to get them interested in an artist are fucking vultures, and as a member of the local media I don't wanna be part of the problem. So I don't wanna have to post about this a lot, I'm just keeping you updated because I'd be sleeping if I didn't.

Everyone knew who Mully was talking about when he said "I don't beef, I set the record straight/fuck king of my city, I'm takin' every state" on "Home Of Da Realest", but it at least wasn't too explicit or direct. But here he was, taking a big, unambiguous shot at Bossman over the beat from the new Black Rob, 3 verses of every angle you can think of, Jermaine Dupri and Sisqo jokes, hating on Biggie samples and Brooke Valentine collabos, saying Boss is from the suburbs just because he's from the Northeast (Mully is from the West side), calling him "the Kyle Bowler of hip hop" (Ravens fans actually cheered when Bowler got injured in the first game of this season). And of course, shouting the Mullymania release date at the beginning and the end of the track, just in case there was any doubt that this is being treated as a promotional opportunity. And I mean, I interviewed Mullyman recently, look for the article in the City Paper this week, and I'm not takin' sides or anything. I almost called him when I heard that just to say, man, don't do that shit, but it's not really my place to say anything.

Bossman's been a co-host on Rap Attack on 92Q most Sunday nights for the last couple months, and last night he was on there and they went ahead and played the record, and then he and Rod Madd Flava talked about it on the air, not even really in a hostile way, but just kind of trying to analyze it and figure out where it's coming from, but Bossman still taking his shots, "I stand on my own, I don't need Bleek, Freeway, Clipse, I stand on my own on records". And "I'm doin' his promotion now, pick up the album on the 25th and get ready for a disappointment".

And then, Mully calling into the station, and him and Bossman talking over the phone on the air, both still biting their tongues, Boss staying calm and saying he doesn't want to swear but spelling out that he thinks Mully is a b-i-t-c-h in that funny junior high way it sounds when you spell out swears, Mully kind of talking fast and blurting things out and interrupting people, flustered like he wasn't expecting to get called out so fast. Bossman citing that Mully had talked to him and bought a CD from him as recently as this summer at the Believe tour, asking over and over, "where does it come from?", and Mully stonewalling with "that's information I can't give to the public right now". But apparently that's why Mully was a no-show at the show last week, even though he was listed on the bill on the Ottobar website and in the City Paper. Some references were made to Bossman saying Mully's name onstage, which I don't remember, but I can't say I heard every word said onstage clearly, I must've missed something.

Then, Bossman and Mully continuing the discussion off the air while the DJ spun each of their new singles, resolving it to some degree and Bossman saying he won't be doing any response records. People like Little Clayway and Ms. Tris calling in and saying what we're all thinking, that this can't get serious and that they're both in a good position and this city isn't big enough for beef, everyone plays the same venues and there's no way it would not escalate. Rod Madd Flava saying at the end of the show, "They already cleared they beef, it is what it is, leave it alone. Don't be callin' askin' to hear the beef records."

3:38 pm EDIT: Kye Stephenson (who wrote the Mullyman article in the October issue of the Source) checks in with his two cents:

al, just wanted to put you d on a few things concerning the mully and bossman beef...

first off, mully and bossman have been subliminally dissin each other for a minute. plain out, they don't like each other. but the thing that sparked the beef was bossman calling mully a bitch at the show. he was doing a joint and the hook was saying mully is a bitch. those were his exact words, "mullyman is a bitch." so mully's camp got word and actually have the shit on dvd of him saying this shit. so, of course, they go record the diss and take it up to radio. and radio has to play it because the shit is hot. bossman got fuckin destroyed on that shit. and of course, he ain't gonna respond because he ain't no battle rapper. this is my point of view...mully wasn't plannin no diss. bossman sparked it and just so happened to do it right before mully's album is droppin. it wasn't no promotional shit, but they are like "hey, if he's that dumb that he's gonna diss us right before our album comes out, we'll take it, thanks." and another thing is, why is bossman even dissin mully? bossman is signed. why would you even worry about somebody who doesn't even have a record deal? cause you're jealous that someone else is getting spins and you ain't the hottest shit out anymore. so, what i'm sayin is...bossman is stupid. mully can end bossman's career.

just a little insight because i heard the whole thing firsthand. and for the record, that mully dis is insane!!!!!!!!! peace.

YO, YOU BE ON SOME REAL BULLSHIT!!! EVERYTIME I TURN AROUND YOU ARE POSTING SOME REAL BULLHIT ABOUT MY ARTIST!!!! YOUR BOY BOSSMAN STARTED THE BEEF AND YOU KNOW IT!!!! WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WUTH YOU AND MULLY IS IT SOMETHING PERSONAL???? DIDN'T HE JUST GET YOU A FUCKING CHECK FOR THAT INTERVIEW WITH THE CITY PAPER??? EVERYTIME I COM TO THIS SITE IT'S SOME BULLSHIT ABOUT MULLY DOING COLLABS (IF ANY OF THESE OTHER HATING ASS RAPPERS COULD DO IT....THEY WOULD, MULLY BEEN WRECKING SHIT BEFORE THE FEATURES WHY ELSE WOULD ANTHER DUDE PUT UP THAT TYPE OF MONEY????), YOU TALKING BOUT PEOPLE WEARING T-SHIRTS (EVERY MAJOR RAPPER I'VE SEEN OR MET ON TOUR HAS PROMOTIONAL TSHIRTS AT SHWS, SO WHY WOULDN'T MULLY, YOU DIDN'T POST ABOUT YOUR BOY BOSSMAN'S TSHIRTS, THAT HE SEEN US WITH AT THAT SAME BELIEVE TOUR AND POPPED UP WITH 3 DAYS LATER, YOU WERE REALLY ON MY MAN'S STAGE PRESCENCE THAT NIGHT TOO, AT A SHOW WITH 12 PEOPLE THERE, BUT SO QUICK TO RUN UP TO HIM WHEN HE GOT OFF THE STAGE AND ROCK TO DO YOUR LITTLE INTERVIEW!!! YOU GOT SHIT TO SAY ABOUT XXL, THE SOURCE, AND THE FADER TOO, BUT WHAT OTHER INDEPENDANT ARTIST, OR SIGNED FOR THAT MATTER DO YOU KNOW (YOUR BOY BOSSMAN)MAKING MOVES LIKE THAT WE DIDN'T CALL THEM THEY CALLED US, OFCOURSE HE'S GONNA MENTION THAT IN A RHYME WE SHOW LOVE TO THOSE THAT SHOW LOVE TO US!!!! IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS HOLLA AT ME IT'S DRAKE YOU KNOW THE NUMBER...... OH YEAH COP THAT ALBUM MULLYMANIA,IN STORES OCT.25 IT'S A CLASSIC

OK, so you just saw the comment from Drake, Mully's co-CEO, and then I called him and talked some of this out. They feel I'm putting too much bias in my writing and that I've been shitting on Mully in subtle ways here on Gov't Names for a while. I don't necessarily agree on all points, but I see some examples where that's true, and I respect where he's coming from, looking out for his artist's best interests. They want me to tell the truth and remove my bias, but I don't know the whole truth, so I'm open to other people informing me. I kinda feel like it would be two-faced to delete what I said and pretend I didn't say it, so I'll leave that be but I'll open it up to whoever wants to say something. Like I said, I don't wanna take sides, and I almost didn't post anything and kinda wish I hadn't now. As fan and as a journalist, I don't really feel like it's my place to get involved. But I think my City Paper article came out really unbiased and positive, and I hope when they see it on Wednesday they agree.

For the record thats not a real beef so what 2 mcee have diffrences with one another, but coming from baltimore city its not right to bring light to that situation because really anit none of us make it yet i don't care whos sign and who's not and none of us internationally known and ani't none of us sold any millions of records, let that shit die on the rap tip or fist fight like men. And i fucks with both of the niggaz rap and personally, so if you niggaz read this shit yall need to dead that shit cause yall anit doing nothing but hurting yall selves and yall yall chances, be men. And 4 the record i dont choose sides i just ride, get yall shit together and be the greatest at cha craft.

WORD FROM SKARR-AKBAR

Thanks for the words of wisdom, man.

Skarr mad ain't nobody talking bout him

IT DOESNT SEEM LIKE SKARR IS MAD TO ME.. He's speaking his opinion like everybody else.. If Mully felt like he needed to say something to Bossman then so be it.. But the ONLY problem I had with the whole thing... well there are a few problems i had was the fact that Number 1, It did seem like Whenever you would post something about Mully you was shitting on him.. Not alot, But it did seem that way and Number 2, Why would BOSSMAN call that man a BITCH 1 year AFTER MULLY said something to BOSSMAN the first time. I don't agree with the whole calling a man a BITCH and telling a man to suck your dick thing unless he wanted something done to him. And SKARR your right, It wasnt a beef.... it was one man not respecting a dudes grind and another dude not having it and recording a monster diss record about him.. I came up in this game with ALOT of artist Bossman, Mullyman, Skarr-Akbar, and a whole host of others and WE ALL (including myself) need to learn to do us PERIOD! It's already hard enough when you have people in your ear like crazy provoking you to do and say shit you really don't mean to say.. and especially when 92q is the only place for artist to let people hear there craft and they shit on us all and as soon as something like this happens they say we should learn to practice peace but in hindsight they aint doing nothing but promoting it way bigger then what it really is. I actually learned soemthing from all of this.. the game don't LOVE you.. so fuck it long enough to get what you can from it and move on.. just be thankful god blessed you with a gift to have millions loving and respecting your craft.. MULLYMANIA FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!

SONNY BROWN

Sonny hit the nail on the head when he mentioned that radio is the biggest instigating bitch of them all. Mark Clark and all them payola-ass mufuckas don't give a fuck about Baltimore Hip-Hop--Bossman or Mully. If they did, they would be biggin' them up and playin' there fuckin records non-stop. You look at Mully...it's takin' him how long to get a record played? Same with Bossman. Them mufuckas should be playin every fuckin track off the album all day. That's real love and support. You look at the regions that are doing it nationally (Houston, New Orleans etc.) and the reason they are able to excel is because they have the hometown support. We don't have that here. Slim Thug called his album Already Platinum for a reason; because he was doing it large on the local tip and the major had to fuck with him. In Bmore, mufuckas gotta scrape and scratch to get one fuckin record played on bullshit 92q where you have clowns like K-Swift using her opportunities to push her shit and big-up her corny-ass club shit. And i ain't knockin anyone's hustle, but i think Sonny said some truths. The real enemy is the support system (or lack thereof) here. We shouldn't be waging war against each other but against the haters at radio. Artists have one outlet--92q. It's time we forced them to play ball or say fuck'em! Like Nas said, "destroy and rebuild." And i'll be the first in line to help any muthafucka that wants to buck the system and start a revolution. Holla at me!

ok....but why is someone saying Al got a check...like this article won't lead to one for Mully!???! Mully should be glad that AL chose him for a subject and decided to paint him in a favorable light. I thought the article was excellent. If I didn't know Mully I would be interested in learning more as a result. Artists need the "Als" of the world...don't foregt that--EVER!!! Writers (freelance or paid) are the one's that connect to intellectual music lovers. I enjoy reading what people who's opinions I've come to trust think. Al's opinion is respected. Airing him out on his own blog is NOT a wize thing to do LOL! You are only as relevant as the media makes you...case and point-- BALTIMORE RADIO! You wouldn't haul off and just say anything to them...have a lil respect. You think cause this is the net the impact is not as great??? You are silly! Al's governmentnames is worldwide ....92Q (hate them or love them) are just Baltimore. City Paper archives are worldwide...now if a person googles Mully in China ..they may find Al's article. That is MAJOR!!! You can't pay for that!!!

Keep up the good work, Al! People have misplaced anger and it seems they are taking it out on you. There is far more than meets the eye to this situation...that is why I have refrained from commenting. I love Mully...His album art alone is worth the money!!! I love B.O.S.S.M.A.N. I think he is an uber-talented lyricist. What i don't enjoy is BS. This whole beef mess is wack.

Next time you want to write about someone..make sure they appreciate your effort and consideration FIRST...if NOT, get with me...I have plenty of people for you to talk about!

Peace!

I wasn't gonna put it like that, but thanks for backing me up, C Love. If people wanna get cynical about me getting a check, that's their opinion, but I was writing about local artists on this site for a year before anyone offered to pay me to write. And if I didn't listen to or respect an artist at all, I wouldn't write about them or ask to interview them, I'm not two faced like that. 90% of what I say here is positive, but I guess I can't be surprised if people get mad about the other 10%. And Sonny, I didn't think it would be some controversy to say you had more stage presence than Mully at that show since y'all are crew. For the 2 or 3 times I posted about Mully that contained something negative, I could show you 5-10 posts that are nothing but positive and promoting his projects. If people want to read something negative into when I'm stating straight facts (like I wasn't dissing anyone's promotional t-shirts, I pointed it out because I wanted to describe the MLU logo that I thought was cool), I can't stop them. I guess what I should learn from this is to say something nice or nothing at all, but at that point I'm just doing unpaid PR for other people.

It is true that having only one radio station as an outlet to expose local artists is hurting the game, it was better back when 105.7 was hip hop and there were two places to get your foot in the door. But I don't see anyone else starting their own FM stations, so writing on this site is the next best thing I can do.

Well one thing i have to say Al, is i appreciate the article on Mully and I appreciate your honesty.. And for the record, My dude from Star Status (Mr. Wilson) TRIED to start a radio station and it was running for a minute but the PEOPLE didnt support that.. I think this is something that one day is going to come to a boil Radio vs Indie artist.. Watch and mark my words.. Kye I feel you!

WILL SOMEBODY FROM MAJOR LEAGUE PLEASE BEAT THE SHIT OUTTA BOSSMAN? PLEASE? MULLYMAN HE CALLED YOU A BITCH MAN? REPRESENT FOR US HOOD SOLDIERS MAN!

y aint mully man on mtv an shit?? someone get him rich !!! he's da shittt!!
